Girls on Fire in the Mother City

Girls on Fire in the Mother City

by Aziza de Villiers

Last year December saw the Girls on Fire flame glow even brighter with not one, but two, cocktail events held in honour of the 16 Days of Activism campaign in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The Cape Town event was hosted on 9 December 2016 at the Surfside Restaurant in the Strand. It saw an inspiring attendance by ladies coming together to commemorate their pledge. To add a competitive edge to the event, the Girls on Fire Facebook Page ran two competition categories: one for the Top Meme, and the second for the Top Cameo submitted, with both relating to the subject of the campaign itself. Naturally our sponsors did not disappoint, and all of our ladies walked away with a small token to remember the day by. Lezelle Mennie, a local police officer and mother of three, our finalist for the Top Meme category in Cape Town, walked away with an application form for a brand-new Glock 43 9mmP Pistol, sponsored by Bernhard Agencies, Trijicon HD sights courtesy of ECM Technologies, and a Kydex holster set, locally produced and sponsored by CKCS (Carter Kustom Carry Solutions). Girls on Fire has some great events planned throughout 2017, so please follow us on Facebook if you want to join in. On behalf of Girls on Fire, we would like to extend our appreciation to all of our sterling sponsors, who contributed a magnificent R75 000 in total.
